c1970s Antique Open Field Persian Varamin Rug 1.8x2.0
VARAMIN is located 40 km (25 Miles) southeast of Tehran and is one of the largest and oldest villages of Iran. It is located in a highly fertile plain, and its main districts are Pishva and Gharachak. The grand Jami' Mosque with its Ilkhan period architecture and tile work, as well as the Sultan Aladdin Tower, Imamzadeh Yahya and Iraj Tower, are all indications of Varamin's past. Varamin rugs and carpets have geometric patterns with repeated medallions, especially on runners. They are made by tribal people who either live in or pass by Varamin. Varamin rugs and runners are of excellent quality. These carpets and rugs come in different sizes, but the majority of them are mid-size (4x6 to 8x10 feet). Dark browns and dark reds on khaki or dark blue backgrounds are the main colors used in Varamin rugs and carpets. The texture is comprised of a soft wool which has a thin, tight pile. The warps of the foundation and the wefts are mostly cotton. The village and workshop weavers mainly use the asymmetrical (Persian) knot, while the nomads, depending on their ethnicity, use either the asymmetrical or the symmetrical (Turkish) knot.Varamin rugs and carpets are among the best looking, finest quality carpets.
