c1940s Antique Tribal Persian Ferdos Rug 4.0x6.9
Ferdos rugs originate from Ferdos, a small town in the Province of Khorassan in northeastern Iran. Rug weaving in Khorasan goes back thousands of years. Known for their beautiful hand made traditional rugs, Ferdos was also the birthplace of Ferdowsi, one of Iran's greatest poets and scholars. Ferdos boasts the first tribal members to weave traditional rugs for personal use as well as for trade. Even today, the Ferdos villagers produce the finest quality traditional rugs with the same marvelous technique that they?ve been using for centuries. Jufti knots are seen in traditional rugs from this region. They are like the Persian knot with depressed warps but the knot loops around two warps at a time rather than one. Ferdos rugs predominantly feature the Tree of Life design, one of the oldest and most cherished designs, though geometric designs can be found. In dry lands with a shortage of water the tree is a symbol of life and sacred being. The trees grow from the base of the traditional rugs, filling the entire field. Flowers and birds can be seen on leafy branches. Frequently a stream and a few small animals may be seen at the base of the tree. Traditional rugs from Ferdos have a beautiful color palette of blues, reds, and beiges from all natural dyes. The foundations of Ferdos rugs are cotton while the pile is almost always wool. The quality of the wool is so good and the weaving technique so excellent that Ferdos rugs are virtually indestructible, making them excellent choices for high traffic areas or for homes with young children and pets. The quality of Ferdos rugs is extraordinary with a soft and luxurious feel, regardless of the age of the piece. Ferdos rugs will provide a polished and elegant look to your d?cor while providing you with unsurpassed strength and durability.
