History of Origin

Mohajeran is a trade name given to better quality versions of Sarouk rugs thought to have been woven before 1900. Such rugs are sometimes called Sarouk Mohajeran. Sarough is a large village which is located near Arak in west-central Iran. It is an important and historic center in the region, with a respected, romantic name in carpet weaving. Patterns usually incorporate floral vines, with red and navy as predominant colors, generally carried out in wool of very high quality.
