TAFRESH is a small town, 260 km southwest of Tehran, in central of Iran. Although better in quality, the rugs of Tafresh closely resemble those of Hamadan. This is because Tafresh is located between Qom(Qum) and Hamadan. Tafresh rugs usually have a dense, thick pile made with high quality wool, giving these rugs an unusual softness. Smaller works are much more common than larger ones. Tafresh rugs and carpets usually have geometric or animal patterns. Great similarity exists between Tafresh and Hamedan rugs and carpets, however, Tafresh are of better quality. In reference to physical characteristics of Tafresh rugs, they are known for a center medallion or a repeating pattern of smaller medallions along with floral elements, geometric shapes, and animal figures. Tafresh rugs and carpets come in different sizes, but the majority of them are small in size. Dark reds and bold blues are the predominate colors, with ivories used for contrasting colors. Tafresh rugs and carpets are made of a soft wool coming from the neck of a lamb (kork) with a thin, tight pile. The warps of the foundation are mostly cotton; the single wefts are either cotton or wool. Persian knots are used by the weavers of Tafresh. Tafresh rugs are of excellent quality and can suit one's many tastes with a geometric and floral ambience while providing uplifting colors.
