RAVAR (LAVAR) is a small town 120 miles from Kerman. Although, sometimes incorrectly identified by the tradesmen of the West as 'LAVAR,' its true name is RAVAR. This weaving center is located just southeast of Iran. Ravar (Lavar) has a history of producing some of the finest Persian rugs. Ironically, weaving in Ravar (Lavar) didn't take place until the 19th century. The historical explanation appears to be that, during this time there were wars taking place in Kerman. Due to excessive destruction, the people of Kerman were forced to flee. They took refuge in Ravar(Lavar). Among the majority of the people that fled were carpet weavers in which they brought their remarkable skills to Ravar(Lavar). The rugs they made have extremely detailed designs executed with high craftsmanship and made to last a lifetime. It is no wonder that antique Ravar (Lavar) rugs are selling at very high prices in upscale galleries. Carpets from Kerman
have been appreciated by western collectors for many years. Kerman Lavar (Ravar) rugs and carpets have many flowers in their curved patterns. Their all-over pattern is very unique and beautiful. Kerman Lavar (Ravar) also produces extremely nice rugs with human portraits and depictions of historical events. Kerman Lavar (Ravar) carpets and rugs are of very high quality, as is Kerman. These carpets come in different sizes, but the majority of them are mid-size (4x6 to 8x10 feet). You can also find larger rugs up to 10x 18 feet. The primary colors used in these carpets and rugs are as follows: pinks, light reds, yellows, and olive greens. They are among the few Persian rugs to have so many variations in color. They are made of wool and have a thin, tight, and very well textured pile. The warp is made of cotton while the pile is made of wool. Rugs and carpets from Kerman weavers in this area use Persian knots. Kerman Lavar (Ravar) carpets are beautiful and elaborately colored so there is a great demand for them globally.
